L'ORANGERIE
SOUTH TYROL

ITALY

Finding a restaurant that is not one of the same, especially in South Tyrol, is always a pleasant surprise. Don’t misunderstand me. I love South Tyrolian food. But places that actually dare to challenge traditions and bring a bit of ‘internationalism’ in their menu without ignoring local dishes or seasonal flavours do deserve my attention.

And L’Orangerie is one of these places. Located in Montagna or Montan, L’Orangerie combines ethnic elements with a more cosmopolitan vibe. Yet, you still get a bit of the alpine landscape and views of the surrounding mountains.

When it comes to food, the menu draws inspiration from local dishes and seasonal ingredients but with a few Asian surprises along the way. Something that definitely makes the entire dining experience more adventurous.

But what is really special about L’Orangerie’s food? Dishes have a unique – and often hard to achieve – balance. In every dish, there is no protagonist or secondary ingredient. All ingredients stand out and at the same time intertwine with each other.

From the slowly cooked beef cheek accompanied with roasted ‘canederli’ to the most elegantly crafted white truffle tagliolini; and from the exotic papaya salad to the most flawlessly balanced fish curry, every dish tells a story and in a magic way manages to equally praise every single ingredient.
